Do I need permits and/or licenses to start a business?

To be able to start your business in the Netherlands, in many cases you will need specific licenses and permits. For instance, you will need a permit for all activities with regard to building, renovation and environment. Other licenses apply to special professions, such as taxi services and financial services. Besides, professional requirements, such as diplomas, additional training requirements may be applicable. For some sectors there are additional rules. Be sure to inform yourself before starting, since operating a business without fulfilling the correct requirements could lead to administrative fines.
